FAQs FOR NEW STUDENTS

IS  AGE A CONSIDERATION  FOR TRAINING?

Generally speaking, the answer is "no," however, kids must be 7th grade or higher to train at Defense Kinetics. We have many retirement-aged students, but it really depends on your overall health and physical abilities. It's always recommended to consult your physician before this or any other fitness-related program.

DO I NEED ANY MARTIAL ARTS EXPERIENCE TO SIGN UP?

No experience is needed or required. If you have previous training in a martial art or boxing, and wish to train in Kuaishou self-protection, we recommend that you sign up for a Level One Course to get familiar with our Kuaishou style specifically, and work with the instructor to phase into Advanced Training as soon as practical. 

DO I NEED TO PURCHASE SPECIAL EQUIPMENT ?

For boxing, muay thai, and advanced Kuaishou, you'll need to purchase a mouthguard.  MMA  style (10 oz.) gloves, as well as boxing gloves (14 oz.) and hand wraps  are available at the training center, however, students are strongly encouraged to provide their own gloves and hand wraps after the first few weeks of instruction.  Your instructor will assist you with the proper technique for hand wrapping. Defense Kinetics sells mouth guards, hand wraps, MMA and boxing gloves on site, or most sporting goods stores and MMA/boxing equipment stores sell these items. They can also be purchased on line. 

WHAT DO I WEAR DURING TRAINING?

Wear  the same comfortable clothing you would wear to the gym. Shoes are not worn on the Kuaishou, may thai, judo or jiu jitsu training mats. Watches, jewelry, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, etc., must be removed before training, so it's best to leave these items at home. 

WHAT AMMENITIES ARE AVAILABLE AT THE TRAINING CENTER?

We provide towels, showers, day lockers, and water from a water cooler. For convenience, many students bring their own water bottles and towels. Snack vending machine is also available in the lobby entrance.

CAN STUDENTS GET INJURED WHILE TRAINING?

Serious injuries are exceedingly rare. Classes are professionally supervised and safety is the top priority and responsibility of every instructor and student. Please make your instructor aware of any existing injuries you have and notify them immediately if you are injured while training at our center.

WHAT IF I MOVE OUT OF THE AREA, OR MISS EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME FROM ILLNESS OR INJURY?

Members who have moved 10 miles or more out of the area, or become ill or injured for 7 days or more, and who have active prepaid plans or annual memberships, may cancel their memberships and receive a refund for the unused portion of their purchase, or place a temporary hold on membership. Contact Ashley Ortiz, Manager of Member Services, for assistance.

CAN I SWITCH SPORTS  IF THE CLASS ISN'T A GOOD FIT FOR ME?

 Yes! Single Sport Members can switch combat sports within the first three weeks of training.  All Sport and All Access members and Class Package holders may switch combat sports at any time.

WHERE CAN I STORE MY BELONGINGS DURING CLASS?

Unlocked and open cubicles (some with phone chargers and most adapters) are available in the training studio. Please note we are not responsible for lost or stolen items. A limited number of day lockers are available in each shower area.
